Gaolbirds...

The gulls roosting outside Rothesay Castle on Bute looked as if they had been caught up to no good and banged up in gaol for their trouble. Two thoughts. One, someone trying to eat their fish and chips on the seafront in Rothesay would applaud such action. Two, I wonder why gaol is sometimes spelled that way. Off to sample the delights of Wikipedia etc...
