Dumbarton Castle

My camera developed a bit of a malfunction today so this shot is not as good as it should be.

This piece of art work, along with the empty powder legs, was inside the magazine of the castle. The magazine was built in 1748, shortly after the Jacobite Rising in 1745. Iron was strictly prohibited to prevent accidental sparks (potentially caused by hob-nailed boots scratching on stonework). The doors were made from wood sheathed in copper, and all fittings were brass or bronze. Before entering, soldiers changed into special clothes and wooden clogs.
