Orang-utans at Shang-ri-la

Day 2 in Kota Kinabalu and we went to a local resort and rehabilitation centre to view some orphaned orangutans. This was a halfway home between the rescue centre and a larger facility called Sepilok. That nature reserve is the same size as Singapore and the rainforest is the oldest in the world. We watched their feeding time and once they left the other monkeys descended.

We spent the afternoon enjoying the luxuries of the resort, lounging by the spectacular white beach and dipping our toes in the South China Sea. Kirsty and I even attempted to reach our own private beach.

In the evening we visited the floating city mosque (the taxi driver, Stannis, was brilliant), took photos with Chinese tourists and walked the coast as the sun set; all before dinner at the Filipino market.
