Norwich Farmshare Open Day

Whilst many of my activist friends were in Doncaster protesting outside the UKIP conference I spent a good few hours at the Norwich Farm Share open day in glorious warm sunshine as my foot isn't quite healed yet.

Farmshare is where we get our weekly veg from and the only time I've tasted veg as good as this was years ago when we had an allotment. Farmshare isn't just a box scheme though, it's a chance for members to part-own the farm and influence how it runs, get involved in growing and is brilliant for people like us where it's just not practical for us to maintain an allotment. Rol spends several hours a month on the farm and absolutely loves it.

In addition to seeing where our veg comes from and meeting some lovely people and listening to some local musicians we learned a lot about the politics of food and food production, including something called 'seed saving'. A different kind of activism to going on demos or taking part in the kind of actions that I'm used to.

We also heard from the fabulously knowledgeable Bob Flowerdew (yes that is his real name) who you can see here. He sounds exactly like he does on Gardener's Question Time and he was lovely. Stayed around for ages after he opened the event, nattering away to all and sundry. His plait is amazing!
