Brief visitation

While I was working in the garden this afternoon, this rather impressive insect buzzed me and landed on the wall. It stayed just long enough for me to grab the camera and take one shot, then it was off. I think it is probably one of the woodwasps, Sirex noctilio, but I haven't yet been able to confirm this from the photo. Note to self: carry net, collecting tubes and camera at ALL times when outside!
