Poppies

We dropped Dylan off at Jane's and went to London for the day. Emma and Andy are on holiday in Italy and the original plan was to go down for the weekend and stay at theirs but with Dylan still a little unsettled after the move we decided just to go for the day.

Tom had a ticket for the Chelsea - Villa match so after lunch on the Edgeware Road amongst the myriad of Lebanese restaurants he set off for Stamford Bridge and we took the bus from Marylebone to the Tower of London.

We'd heard about the moat of ceramic poppies surrounding the tower, an art installation comprising 888,246 poppies representing each death in the British forces in the First World War. The poppies are constantly being added to by the many volunteers with the aim of getting them all in place by November 11th.

It is a spectacular sight with poppies appearing to cascade from a window to the thousands in the moat below.

After spending some time there we crossed Tower Bridge and walked along the south bank of the Thames to Hungerford Bridge where we crossed over to Charing Cross and caught the bus from Trafalgar Square back to Marylebone. The square was thronging with people enjoying a Japanese food fair from the many stalls lining the perimeter.
