Offline waterwash

Today we washed the compressor of the gasturbine of unit EC 3.
Not in the normal way at the outside but at the inside.
We pump 2500 liters of water with 70 liters of soap through the machine while it is at "cranking speed ", that is at 750 revs. per minute.


A washblower is used to keep the soap away from the gaspipes.
As you can see soap is coming out at places it shouldn't come out...
Here are the burners and the horizontal flange of the machine.

Here you can see a waterfall of water and soap come out of the exhaust that should be tight....
Why we wash it?
Well, to wash out the salt and dirt deposits from the blading of the compressor, which came in with the intake air.
After the wash the efficiency of the compressor is increased...
