Colourful

Today's sharp light made for vivid colours. Bluest sky for ages, green daffodil shoots poking out where a week ago there was nothing to see and the white birds looking like they'd had a shampoo and set.

Spent some of today proof reading an assignment. It's done, hooray. This afternoon, a few of us students, brainstormed ideas for the website we're going to launch in conjunction with our anthology. We looked at www.blipfoto with its sleek design and cool features. They were very impressed (of course).

Did anyone see the BBC programme about the internet this evening? A new word - we belong to the species 'homo-interneticus'. It was a thought provoking look at whether social networking in its various forms creates not only different ways of interacting but also of thinking. People tend to flit from site to site gathering snippets - associative thinking, rather than engaging in deeper study of a specific topic - linear thinking. The former are 'foxes' and the latter 'hedgehogs'. As with so many things in life, a bit of both is useful.

If you'd like to, you can take the test here to determine your inner internet animal.

Significantly, it demonstrated how social networking is making young people more politicly aware and vocal. One of Facebook's founders had taken a sabbatical to work with the Obama campaign. He talked about how networking had revolutionized younger voters' engagement. That seems like a plus to me.
