Pied Wheatear

Today, with rain threatening, we headed first south, to Kaliakra, on a long point extending into the Black Sea. It includes extensive medieval ruins and is also a nature reserve. In fact I captured this Pied Wheatear fly-catching from the old wall you see here. It appears to be a young male, with traces of black which will be much stronger in its adult plumage. It's another of the life birds we've had on the trip.

After that we drove northwest in steady rain (lasting the rest of the day) to our final stop on the tour: Pelican Lodge in Vetren, near the Danube and the border of Romania. It is run by Nicolay, our local guide.

I'm backblipping this on Saturday 9/29 after two days without wifi (the local provider for the area around Vetren was not functioning).
