Deep in a wooded valley

Deep in a wooded valley in Kent lies Ightham Mote, a beautiful medieval moated house. The walls of half timbering or stone rise from a wide moat crossed by a stone bridge. Inside, a range of buildings surround a courtyard. The rooms are set out in different periods from the high ceilinged medieval hall, through the Elizabethan and Victorian rooms right through to an elegant 1950s study belonging to the last owner, an American. He left Ightham Mote to the National Trust by which time it was in dire need of extensive repair. With the help of a Heritage Fund, the National Trust spent over £10 million pounds restoring the building. It is a very atmospheric beautiful place to visit and was a great day out for our visitors.
