Ely cathedral - octagonal tower

The lantern tower in the centre of Ely cathedral, built originally in around 1400 was restored to 'original' condition by George Gilbert Scott in the 1850s.

While we sat and listened to the haunting choristers singing their evensong. There was a bat circling the lantern tower in the setting sun.
