Janie Seddon

The boys were keen to see the rusting hulk on Motueka's foreshore today. Visiting from an inland town, they were impressed by what they called 'a real ship wreck'. There was an icy wind and low tide so we didn't linger - just long enough to hopefully score a blip.

One of two submarine mine laying vessels brought out from England in 1903, the Janie Seddon was based in Wellington. She was used in port during both World Wars and was the Examination vessel during WW2.
About 1936, Janie Seddon was purchased by Talley’s Fisheries as their first vessel. For some years now, she has been a rusting hulk on the foreshore. A sad end for a hard working boat.

My apologies if I don't manage to comment over the next few days - the two boys are keeping me pretty busy.
