Lost Generation

Had a meeting up towards Middleton today and was running a bit early so i popped into St Leonards Churchyard.

I have blipped this tower before but never been in the graveyard, and really wished i hadnt. It was a shambles of knocked over, broken grave stones, masses of dog shit and metal bins full of empty beer cans. Really tragic sight.
The hill its on is the site of a bronze age burial mound, then a wooden saxon church, and then this stone one, parts of which date back to 1096.

Amazing how a site can remain revered and respected for over 3,000 years ... until this generation.
