'View From The Top'

Of the Southern Star.

We headed into town today, myself and Dylan dropped the girls off down at St.Kilda to do the Solar System walk, a 5.9km scale model starting at the sun which looked to be about 1 metre in diameter and ending up down past Princes Pier at Pluto which in comparison to the sun was about the size of a pin head. Gives a fairly good idea of how far apart (relatively) the planets in our solar system are.

Dylan and I headed down to the Docklands where there was the inaugural Docklands Blues Festival, a free event starting at 11am and finishing at 9pm. There were 5 stages set up in various venues, although we only saw the one band and I don't even know the name of them, but they were really good. Will have to look up the playing schedule to find out. It wasn't anywhere near as busy as I was expecting as the weather was superb. We ended up going on the Southern Star, the huge Ferris wheel similar to the London Eye. I never thought I would go on it as I've always said that it is built on the wrong side of town (which I still believe) but it was quite good. We had our own pod to ourselves for the half hour journey which was nice and only had to wait in line for 5 minutes or so to get on, another bonus, because I would have refused to wait any more than about 15 minutes. You don't get to see the river and all of the beautiful parks and gardens from this side as it's fairly industrial out here on the West side of the city.

After a wander around, we drove back down to Port Melbourne and joined the girls at Princes Pier for the last fews hundred metres of the Solar System walk down to poor old Pluto, the size of a pin head. We then all had a play around down on the beach for about an hour before heading home.
