Great Dunmow

Once again I was up very early to watch the Formula One race from Japan. The conditions caused by typhoon Phanfone made this event very difficult for the drivers and teams. As torrential rain came down again, the race was ‘red flagged’ but not soon enough to prevent a major crash occurring. Me and the GOG then went to Great Dunmow to take some pictures and we visited the China Garden Restaurant for lunch.

Today’s picture shows part of what is known as ‘The Doctor’s Pond’. It is said that this is where he bred and kept his leeches, which were used for treating patents in those days. Legend also says that this pond is where Lionel Lukin, who was born in Great Dunmow on 18 May 1742 and who invented the ‘unimmergeable’ lifeboat tested his theory with model boats.
