Time slip

I had a very wet afternoon walk at the nature reserve, full of hope for some good photos of fungi. However, it seems the effects of the recent rain will take a little longer before the fungi spring into action. Talking about 'spring', I think I saw more primroses in flower today than I saw toadstools. This is no longer unusual - over the last few years I've been able to find some in flower in every month of the year. I wonder if this is a new phenomenon or whether it was just not remarked on in previous centuries. I can't believe Gilbert White or John Clare would have failed to notice and make a note of unseasonal flowering - I must check.
