Macaroni? Or Mince?

Pies of North-East Scotland: Volume 1

Variations on the basic "scotch pie" form abound. In this display, fillings range from the mundane mince and steak to the more exotic chicken curry and, of course, the connoisseur's choice: the macaroni cheese pie. The rare and highly-prized smoked sausage, baked bean and mashed potato pie is, however, notable by it's absence.

I was in an all day meeting in Aberdeen, and my only chance to take a photo was first thing this morning when, through the rain and the dark and the gloom (yes, GREAT weather today!), I spotted this brightly-lit display in the window of the baker's shop opposite my hotel.

I was sorely tempted, but in the end went back and had breakfast in the Holiday Inn Express. Oh joy.

As if the idea of a macaroni cheese pie wasn't enough...be aware that there are chip shops in NE Scotland that will heat them up for you in the deep fat fryer before serving them with chips!
