Gone south

At this time of year, as we've been reminded in recent days, the weather can be somewhat unpredictable in Northern Europe. So to ensure good conditions for test driving and photography, many car launches tend to happen further south as we head into autumn.

That is why I am in Southern Spain today to make acquaintance with the new Ford Mondeo, having left a rainy Stansted behind this morning. In case you think we motoring journalists just swan around having a good time, let me say that we have been driving a demanding test route for most of the day, arrived at the hotel at 6 pm, with just time for a quick change and a bit of writing before a press conference at 7 pm, followed by discussions with engineers and product managers over a working dinner. Then more writing to do when we depart to our rooms.

There are compensations, though, such as fabulous scenery on route and this blissful view at a coffee stop this afternoon. Yes, the lake water really is that colour!
