Success!

Well, it was still touch and go today. Mark was ready to run this morning and set off in the fog in style. He'd done regular training runs of over 20 miles and was on good form.

I'd dropped Rich and Mark off so made my way into York to meet Rich. I spotted Mark coming through the city walls and he was doing well. After meeting Rich, we headed out to a village to catch Mark on a there and back stretch at 17-19miles.

The touch and go part...

When we spotted Mark, he was doing well and on time but we could see he was in a touch of pain. He came over and questioned how much further he could go as his leg was seizing up. Luckily, there was a first aid tent right where we were standing and a few stretches and a freeze spray set him on his way. When he came back the other way, we got the thumbs up and a wave that we could head off.

There were no text messages as we waited on the finishing line and a little later than he had hoped, we saw him appearing ...and running! Apparently, he'd spent the last part of the run stretching, running, walking, stretching. But it had got him through on his first marathon.

We were all really pleased he'd made it to the end and it was a good feeling going back in the car.

Curry and beer has been had. Bed, I'm sure is nigh!
