African Penguins on the march!

Our last day in Cape Town and my final wish for this trip was to see some Southern Right Whales. We drove to one of the best spots in the world for shore based whale watching, Hermanus where we even heard the whale crier with his horn sounding.
Several whales came very close to shore and although we did not see any spectacular leaps we saw plenty to make the journey worthwhile and had a nice lunch while we were watching.

The drive itself passed through some lovely scenery and on the way we stopped at Betty's Bay and saw large numbers of African penguins with nothing like the crowds of people who had been at Boulders beach. In addition we saw a lot of African Rock Hyrax or " dassies" as they are known. They seemed to like sharing the rocks very close to the penguins and we saw some young ones as well. It is hard to believe these small furry mammals which look a bit like large guinea pigs are closely related to elephants.
