Pohutakawa

Well this is actually a very small variety of our native Pohutakawa that I have growing in a pot near my front door. It is such a beautiful plant with its dark glossy leaves and it is forming a great shape in the large pot, with branches falling down the sides and also growing upwards. And at this time of the year it rewards me with a mass of red flowers. They don't last long, but are pretty spectacular while they are flowering.
Early this morning it was so still and the backlighting was special.

And pleased to report that Ian has come through the surgery well, although he has had a pretty groggy day dosed up on strong painkillers. I am picking him up at 10am in the morning, not looking forward to the two hour drive home, hoping they give him his drugs just before we leave.
