Blue Shroom

After the unpleasant weather of the last few days, I wasn't surprised that we didn't have a great turn-out for today's Fungi Survey. Four of us set out to look at an area of grassland which hadn't been recorded since the original Network Rail survey around a year ago.We found quite a few grassland species, including plenty of waxcaps. The highlights were Volvariella gloiocephala - the Stubble Rosegill, which is not uncommon, but was a new record for the site and a new one for me, and this Stropharia caerulea - Blue Roundhead, which is not at all rare but one of my favourites, as blue is such a wonderful and unexpected colour for a mushroom. Still raining outdoors - hoping for better tomorrow, as I have 2 forays!
