The Edge of the Wold

Spider from Mars

It was another grey day in the Deep South, coming on to rain in the afternoon. The spiders from Mars in Dad's garden added a bit of interest. This one is in the middle of constructing her web. I am always amazed at the precision with which these creatures, with no training, can make such elaborate constructions. She caught two small flies even before the web was finished, carrying them off to her larder then returning to her architectural work.

The old flyer was cheery again today after a bad day yesterday. It was only bad from a psychological point of view, physically he is getting better day by day. He does have the most extraordinarily strong constitution. It does look like he will be in hospital for another week before being transferred to a recuperation hospital where he can rebuild his strength slowly before going home. I can only stay until Saturday morning, and I am missing home, so must get back. Maybe the sun will shine tomorrow?
