An Optimists Outing

After spending a couple of days thinking about sustainable development in the Arctic, today's topic was rewilding the UK. Earthwatch hosted a debate at the Royal Geographical Society in London which addressed the pros and cons of attempting rewilding in a (relatively) little country like the UK.

Given the audience it was always very likely that there would be an overwhelming vote of approval for rewilding (which there was), what was a little more surprising was the assertion by a large majority of the audience that they expect to see substantial rewilding in their lifetime. And given the average age of the audience, that means pretty soon. I look forward to seeing the wolves.

Kate Humble (who was chairing the debate) commented that it was lovely to be in a room full of optimists.
