Sign of a bad winter to come ?

looking at the holly bushes which seem to be as red with berries as they are green with leaves nature seems to be preparing fruits for wildlife in abundance this year .
i remember my granny saying that was a sign of a long hard winter to come.
Or was that just and old wives tale ? we will see
