Sunday bustle

Phnom Penh's Russian Market area in late afternoon.

One of the things that is good about living in Phnom Penh and in most places in Asia is that weekends and evenings mean not very much to traders and shopkeepers. It means you can grab that packet of toilet roll or dried mango if you realised you've run out when getting home late. When I was working in Africa where nothing is open past 5pm or at weekends, getting supplies had to be planned with military precision.

I've long been a fan of abolishing Sunday trading laws in the UK, as they make it very difficult to get hold of a pint of milk after getting back late from a weekend away.
