On the banks of the Allan Water

The strong winds have reached us so my walk today was down in the sheltered glen along the banks of the Allan Water made famous in the Scottish song “Banks of Allan Water”.

This song was written by M.G. Lewis (1775-1818) known as Monk Lewis who lived at the beginning of the 19th century in Dunblane.

Here is a link to a YouTube clip of Adelina Patti singing it.

The Allan Water runs through the Allan glen between Dunblane and Bridge of Allan before joining the Forth the other side of Stirling.
