Old wall

After a few sips of Ardbeg last night, fresh air was very important this morning. Unfortunately it was a case of taking a fair bit of water with the air but it is October on the west coast of Scotland.
To start with, back to our peat bog and turning another set of peat. One more visit should finish the turning and then we must ponder how to get the stuff off the moor....
Afterwards we headed north to a fascinating area on the North coast of North Uist opposite Vallay. All sorts of remains, some excavated by Beveridge back in the 1920s but other still to understand. On one ridge was a whole string of croft remains and this wall was part of one of those. I love the way they were fitted together and what a great job the lichen has done in weathering the stones. A flat photo rarely does justice to the beautiful texture of these walls but I tried.
