Radial surgery

I came across this on a walk this afternoon. The recently sawn off end of a tree limb, cut off close to the ground. I don't know what this tree is but its obviously some sort of eucalypt. The red of the wood was really vibrant and reminiscent of the colours of the central parts of Australia. The pattern of the splits in the wood was fascinating and really draws the eye.
