Rose with an Unknown Companion.........

..........this beautiful rose is amongst the lovely flowers that Anni brought me last Saturday. Her companion looks a bit like Cow Parsley but whether it is, I don't know.

It did droop a little yesterday but I recut the stem and plunged it in to boiling water for 20 seconds and, this morning, it looks as good as ever.

My BOUI for today:-

1) 1,000 years old. That's the age the world's oldest living rose is thought to be. Today it continues to flourish on the wall of the Hildesheim Cathedral in Germany.

2) Roses are truly ageless. Recently, archaeologists discovered the fossilized remains of wild roses over 40 million years old.

3) Until the early 19th century dried rose petals were believed to have mysterious powers. Napoleon gave his officers bags of rose petals to boil in white wine, to cure lead poisoning from bullet wounds, Even today, rose water is still used to refresh the hands before a feast or festive greeting, from the Middle East to northern India.

4) Napoleon's wife Josephine so adored roses, she grew more than 250 varieties.

Rain in the night - very bright and very windy this morning - temperature 52 Deg.F. at 9.45am. - not too bad.

Have a great day and look after yourselves.
