Getliffe's Yard

I had to pop into Leek to day, so took the opportunity to have a look around. The difference between yesterdays visit to Stone and Leek today was amazing. Although like many other towns there are charity shops and banks, Leek also has quite a few independent shops including the one's in this covered yard that dates back to the early 19th century.

I also spent a very interesting hour in the Foxlowe Arts Centre, looking at the current exhibition of Patchwork and Stitchery by Carol Phillipson and talking to one of the volunteers who told me all about events, exhibitions, and community projects in Leek.

I came way thinking how nice it was to see a local community thriving rather than declining.
