Wanaka Defiance

I had a long chat and coffee with Cycling Granny, Tussocks master, Traveling Kiwi, Mummahen and Wild Moose Chase this morning. great to catch up with a good chunk of the Wanaka blippers. Good company and good fun as ever. I then headed round the town for a bit of a wander (country hikes are out of the question at the minute) and then i went to Patagonia for a chocolate cheesecake - which I failed to finish yet again.

Town was quite busy, even for a holiday weekend and I had seen a 'Red Bull' tent and assumed there must have been an event on... well there surely was ... a bunch of crazies were doing the Wanaka Defiance
(Red Bull Defiance is a new and unique race format that combines traditional running, kayak and mountain bike endurance disciplines, with the creative element of target based shooting and rope work. 150 handpicked teams of two from around the globe will get the chance to race across six high country stations that traverse some of the most varied terrain ever opened to a multi-sport event. The result is a style of race that offers original team challenges and raw adventure, set amongst the backdrop of New Zealand’s most wild and gruelling terrain in the greater Wanaka region.)

I decided to stay and watch the finish of the two day even and these are the two winners coming across the line.
