windows

But not like Van Morrison thought of it. Everyone likes sunshine but the fact is that if your windows are south facing like the rear of this house the sun can play havoc with the protection provided by the paint. Daily extremes of expansion and contraction can cause cracks in the paint and when the rain gets into these especially into the joints at the bottom of the windows it just sits there and rots.

Modern softwood doesn't help either. When the Georgians put these houses up they were using timber that had been growing slowly and was well seasoned. Nowadays the timber is much softer, a poorer grade. I won't even try to go into the intricacies of how softwood is graded, lets just say that in this country the best grade we get is thirds. The best timber stays in the countries that produce it

We've changed two of the sashes at the back, found two more that should be changed if the client agrees and repaired cills and door frames elsewhere
