Bearded iris

Bearded Irises come from species originating in central Europe and the Middle East. This would be a modern hybrid and these plants do extremely well in Australia. The modern hybrids are the most common and are classified on the basis of flowering height.

I photographed this one in an Open Garden today at Mt. Barker. The garden was called Buccleuch, and this was the 4th time we have visited this very special garden. What makes it even more interesting is that the house is owned by an old school friend who was in my class at high school. It is always great to chat with her again.

The garden in beautiful beyond description. To select just one flower from such a broad display of plants, trees and flowers seems cruel, but that is how it is for today.

Well worth a look in large.
