Mixed emotions - look but don't touch

This is the best specimen of Amanita muscaria, commonly known as the fly agaric, I've found this year. Happy face.
Beside it was a smashed specimen, no doubt destroyed by a "caring" member of the public to protect us all - from what exactly? Getting poisoned by looking at it? Sad face.
When we returned along the route two hours later, this one had been smashed. It wasn't accidental, it was off the beaten track - you had to go looking for it. Angry face. Some people really are selfish bastards.
Sorry for the rant, but this mindless destruction of natural beauty that I've seen so much of this year (not just A. muscaria, many "toadstools" destroyed because "they're poisonous") makes me very sad.
Oh, and please don't pick them to take photos of either - leave them for others to enjoy and for future generations.
