Escaping the Weather

It took a certain fortitude or perversity to exit the protection of the house this morning and brave stair rods of rain to hop, skip and jump along pavements running like rivers in spate to get to my adult education class in Riddles Court.

Drookit sums up the misery of the human result as we hardy ones took our seats with the proscribed homework in front of us and the chance to distance ourselves from the weather outside.
For me it meant losing myself by painting in words the imagery of the road to Birsay in Orkney on a day in high summer.

Two hours later with the rain only slightly less insistent, I was pitched out again into the 'Land of the Mountain and the Flood', with the emphasis on the flood, but this time bringing two of my classmates back to the Dower House for a warming bowl of soup, and the chance to get to know them a bit better.
What interesting people they are and how fascinating to find that after our very different life experiences, we have in common the same search for self expression.

Thank you ladies for your company at lunchtime. If you read this you know who you are.
