Second spring

Strange things are afoot in the vineyards. First, I saw an almond tree in flower. The season for almond blossom is February, not October. "Well, almond trees are a bit flighty," said S. "Like sopranos." But odder still was the sight of vines, after the harvest, pushing out new shoots with bright green leaves on them, even as the old leaves are turning. C'est pas normal ! Vines are baritones, they shouldn't do things like that. Now we are wondering whether some meteorological catastrophe is going to hit us this winter.
