ROOM 101

Into Room 101 along with urban pigeons and (for Meles' sake) seagulls, go Ovation guitars.

Vowed I'd never work on another Ovation - life's short enough without this abandoning of principles. Ho hum - CC was desperate & I relented... It's only a re-fret for God's sake!

Apologies to any Ovation fans - I have a personal revulsion for this purely commercial "product". I toured a couple of times with Marcel Dadi who had the Paris franchise for Ovations. In an interview he did for "Guitar" magazine sacré Marcel said he'd toured with some good musicians but it was a pity that none of them played on a decent instrument.

He went on to mention names:
Stefan Grossman was playing a 1930's Dyer Euphenon - an acoustic cathedral of monumental proportions.
John Renbourn on his 1950's Gibson - and in the '50's Gibson still made wonderful instruments.
Dave Evans on the green wonder as featured on the Old Grey Whistle Test.

Believe you me - all of these instruments showed up Marcel's truly awful Ovation for the bland plastic bullshit that it was!

Aaah - feel better for that - grumps over for today!!
