Vogons

"The great ships hung motionless in the air, over every nation on Earth. Motionless they hung, huge, heavy, steady in the sky, a blasphemy against nature. Many people went straight into shock as their minds tried to encompass what they were looking at. The ships hung in the sky in much the same way that bricks don't."

For ages I've been wondering what these massive blue slabs reminded me of, and it's ironic that it's taken me so long to work it out. The Vogon Constructor Ships from Douglas Adams Hitchhikers novels. At least how they appeared in the TV version - the movie ones were just big oblong things. Just as well they're blue - if they'd been yellow that would be taking irony way too far!
