Sad Bad Day

This morning could not have got off to a much worse start, and then it gradually deteriorated.

Today we interred Pauline’s Mum’s ashes with Dad back in Chalgrove, which is a two and three quarter hour drive.  Allowing for stops and traffic we gave ourselves the best part of four hours to get there.

We got as far a Peterborough when some ********** (person) driving too fast in miserable wet conditions slid into us on a roundabout.  He was braking hard at the time.  Not too much apparent damage to the Mokka as he appears to have hit the rear offside wheel.  Made a bit of a mess of his car though.  Insurance taking care of things, but swapping details put us fifteen or twenty minutes behind.

Then, when we are firmly committed on the A605 we picked up reports of the M1 at a standstill around 15/15a and surrounding roads around Northampton at near gridlock.  Re-programmed route via A509 and Milton Keynes only to find Buckingham at a standstill when we got there – NO warning of that.  Over half an hour to get through there plus the extra journey time finally arrived at the church twenty five minutes late.  They did wait for us, which was just as well as we had Mum. The vicar, an old friend of the family, was very understanding and we gave Mum a pleasant but sad last farewell.

On the way back we detoured via Woodstock so that I could look at my brothers grave.  He died before I was born.  Sadly his grave has deteriorated over the past years and I want to get it renovated. The blip is of the Cross.  Our lad asked what the symbol was, and I had to look it up.  It’s the ISH Cross - Iesus Hominum Salvator (Jesus, Saviour of man).
