In our Billet

National Service Days. Taken in my billet on completion of my trade training as an Airframe Mechanic in the RAF.

By this time our hair had grown from the stubble of basic training ( square bashing). Most of the lads in the picture are Regulars and not National Service.

Having been a deferred apprentice with a technical qualification I was fortunate to get such an interesting job. I was involved in maintenance on fighter jets.

My choice of trades were: Marine mechanic on the high speed air sea rescue boats, Wireless Operator and Airframe mechanic. A the old sweats reckoned you never got your first choice so I put down Airframes as my first and Marine Mechanic as my second. I really fancied the Air Sea rescue, But surprise surprise I got I first choice.
