Textile Poppy Field

This textile poppy field of nearly 2.000 hand-made flowers was made in remembrance of the Bradford Pals.

On 1 July 1916, 2,000 men from Bradford left their trenches to cross 'no man's land' in the first hour of the first day of the battle of the Somme. A large number of these men died. Most would have been friends and work mates who had enlisted together.

Groups of older people from across the district have painstakingly made these poppies to create a 'field' to commemorate the First World War.

Bradford Council's Museums & Galleries staff have worked with nine groups of older people to make the fabric flowers, which have now all been sewn into a five metre square sheet representing a field.

The finished piece was unveiled at Bradford Industrial Museum on Sunday 26 October 2014
