The Stourhead Hooter

So good to hear on Autumn Watch that the Barn Owls have had a good year for breeding. Max Ellishad one of his squirrel composition photos displayed on the program too.

Beautiful day but the colours were pretty muted this year. Still the gardens attracted loads of visitors although it never seemed crowded. Good to go back over old stamping grounds too as I knew the area as a child and used to glean with all the family on the adjacent grass aerodrome after the binder had cut the wheat and we had helped stook the sheaves. The ears made a welcome addition to the feed for the turkeys raised by my aunts in one of the Nissen huts
