November: The New Summer

Another glorious day! Butterflies, specifically Small Tortoiseshell still on the wing. I went to another fungus foray this time in the White Peak - a joint venture with Ashbourne Field Club. We looked around the top reaches of Lathkilldale, one of the very pretty Derbyshire Dales. At this point, near Monyash, the river has completely disappeared. We found around ten Waxcap species, and I did a party piece by using the macro lens on my iPhone to show people Hat Thrower fungi on cow dung, barely visible to the naked eye. They were, I am pleased to report, suitably impressed.
