Rutt marks

These marks are left by rutting roe deer. The doe is chased round and round a tree by the buck until she submits. This is their courtship dance, and always occurs in the same bit of woodland as they are creatures of habit. The rutt begins in the first week of August each year, and continues for the rest of the month. Fallow deer in England also dance in a ring. but in open woodland glades.
