colour flowed from the landscape

High on the fell side the breeze was stiff as we zig-zagged across the short turf and knuckles of grey rock. The sky was uniform and sullen and heads were bowed. Occasional shafts of light seared down to the ground, at first far away on the horizon, then closer. Where the spotlight focussed, the drab tones were made-over and colour flowed from the landscape. Our hearts were gladdened.
