Sunflowers for Christmas

This is a foto of our Childrens' Garden at my school.

Just before the last school holidays the children each planted a sunflower seed in a cardboard egg container. They had to look after them over the holidays - water them, keep them in a sunny spot and make sure their pets didn't get to them.

The children whose sunflowers germinated and the seedlings survived the holidays (of which there were more than we anticipated) were then allowed to plant their seedling and then put their name on a little popsicle stick next to it.

They have taken off rather quickly and we expect they will be in full flower, turning their heads to follow the sun and ready to be taken home for the Christmas holidays.

It has been a fun way to reward responsibility. I have talented teachers who come with these bright ideas!

Hoping to do another blip when they are in full flower.
