The Menin Gate, Ypres

The weather turned on us today. Just as we set off to Tournai it tipped it down with rain so by the time we got there it was a bit of a wash out. Had a coffee, a look round the Notre Dame Cathedral and then headed off to Ypres.

Ypres is beautiful. The Cloth Hall is spectacular, especially at night with the lights on it. Found a little place to have dinner and then walked along to the Menin Gate, where every evening there is a memorial ceremony and the buglers play the Last Post. It is incredibly moving seeing the thousands of names of the fallen soldiers from WW1. Fortunately there was a break in the rain for the ceremony. This is not the best shot. I am not very good at night time shots.

We were so pleased to have made it there this evening.

Tomorrow we leave Sera and Aldo and catch the train to Bruges.

Sorry I'm a bit hit and miss with comments but we are trying to squeeze in as much sightseeing as possible.
