A Bee Keeper's Guide

In honour of World Book Day I thought I would blip a bit of Beekeeping history. This is an old reference book called "The Bee-Keeper's Guide to the Management of Bees in Movable Comb Hives, London: The British Bee Journal, 1947." by Herrod-Hempsall, W., F.R.E.S. I was given my copy by the landlord of our local pub.
The photograph shows the first page of the "Spring Management" Chapter. The interesting bit is the photograph on the left hand page. This shows a school boy resplendent in cap and blazer demonstating the "correct way to hold a frame of bees". It shows how much has changed. There are very few beekeepers of his age. He would have to be wearing a full bee suit and in all probablility there would have had to be a full risk assessment.
