Missal

The missal is a liturgical book in which we find the entire text of the celebration of the Eucharist, songs, readings, prayers, and even directions for action. There are two models: the Altar Missal, for the use of the celebrant and the parishioner missal, smaller, for the faithful.

It is also linked to a service that can perform the altar servers: the role holder missal, which is to present this book to the priest celebrant when he needs to read the various prayers.

Before in large parts of the Catholic Church from 1965-1968 the Mass according to the Tridentine rite gave way to a new liturgy (Novus Ordo Missae) which is celebrated almost everywhere in the vernacular, most believers using a people Missal, also known as hand missal is or simply little missal.

This missal for the lay faithful who miss the awards ceremony is small and easy to carry. It contains the translation of the Latin mass prayers to the appropriate vernacular, so that every believer can pray prayers and Bible texts themselves and understand.
The publication of this hand missals was mostly provided by the liturgical apostolates of different monasteries. Especially the Benedictines and Norbertine were active in spreading the handmissals.
